The Story of E-Data Now!
EDN was born on the back of the 2008 global financial crisis, when the automotive manufacturing industry was brought to its knees and suppliers felt it the most.
Why was this crucial at the time? Cost reduction – through new efficiencies, through reduced waste, through better processes, through reduced man hours.
Founder Chris Maly, a quality inspection company owner contracted to OEMs and suppliers, was one of those external service providers that saw his work and the industry shrivel almost immediately as the OEMs dealt with their own blows.
Perhaps this knee-jerk reaction thinking that Maly was formulating to improve performance on lean operations was premature, but most certainly it was on the mark. Lean manufacturing is not new, he had learnt many techniques on problem solving from the great quality expert William Deming and the TPS system. However, utilizing new mobile technologies with lean methodologies was an entirely new field to play on.
It has taken some time for development. Technology had to catch up to this thinking. When the global financial crisis struck, the iPhone had only recently been launched and if we think of a smart phone now, they don’t seem so smart back then. Phone applications was a new thought being driven by 20 year-olds and Facebook had only just opened to non-US college students.
The technology did catch up and EDN lean thinking was implemented into the daily audits and quality inspections that Maly’s core company conducted on client sites.
Fast forward to today, and EDN is successfully operating with many languages, across plants and countries. Most importantly is helping managers, auditors and workers become more efficient, ensure safety and improve customer satisfaction through cost reduction and quality.
